Sonos may develop a speech assistant option for Alexa or Google Assistant for its speakers customer survey noticed VoiceBot.ai. Poll, shared Sonos customer at Reddit, describes a device voice control system that would improve user privacy No route questions and commands through the cloud.
In the survey (pictured below Thanks to Reddit’s user EdmundFitzgerald29), Sonos writes that its “potential new product offering” would use the wake-up call “Hey Sonos” and allow users to control playback, search for songs, and transfer music to other speakers with their voice. According to the survey, the assistant can respond faster because it handles everything on the device instead of relying on an Internet connection and sending queries to the server.
When Limit asked for comment on whether the query was genuine, Sonos said:
We regularly bring product and experience concepts to our customers to better understand the things that are important to them. We have nothing else to share at the moment.
There is reason to believe that Sonos is working on such a project. Sonos bought his own artificial intelligence platform in the form of excerpts in 2019. Snips ’privacy-focused technology — especially performing all processing on the device — sounds a lot like Sonos has now reportedly introduced to customers. Sonos also wants to offer an independent voice solution – it has hit the public with Google, one of its voice control partners.
Sonos claims that Google reserved part of its multi-room audio technology during its Google Music partnership in 2013. The company apparently warned Google against patent infringement during several launches of Google Chromecast and Home speakers, but Google did not listen. Now the conflict is visible constant legal battle started by Sonos in 2020.
It is not clear when or if Sonos intends to introduce its own voice control system, but based on a survey highlighting compatibility with Amazon Alexa and not Google Assistant, it appears that Sonos would like Google to take on a less central role.
