Apple last month announced AirTag The tracker and its packaging show that it was supposed to come much earlier, but the release was delayed for more than a year. Daniel has uploaded images from YouTube channel ZONEofTECH showing that the AirTag box mentions the year 2020 and the date of the leather keychain 2019.

The tracking device was said to be under development for the first time in April 2019 and MacRumors has noticed documentation suggesting that it was tested by the Federal Communications Commission between July and November 2019. This means that the product was ready to go as early as the end of 2019 and could have been announced together iPhone 11, but Apple sat in it all the time. There are a couple of theories as to why the launch of AirTag was delayed.

It may be that Apple didn’t see the point in releasing the tracking device at a time when most iPhones didn’t have a U1 chip that uses ultra-wideband (UWB) technology to find other U1-equipped devices, such as the AirTag. It has changed iPhone 12because it has joined iPhone 11 providing UWB technology.

Another possibility is that Apple no longer wanted to attract antitrust in 2020. Devices within Apple’s Find My network could help find the missing AirTag and the Cupertino giant opened for offline companies a few days before it revealed its Bluetooth tracking. An earlier publication could have been criticized for anti-competitive behavior.

The AirTag is $ 29 a pop and it also comes in four packs for $ 99. It is now delivery to customers.
