Closed beta of Amazon Games’ new MMO new world has been spoiled by reports that the game has been bricked Nvidia RTX 3090 graphics cards for some players. In a statement shared on Wednesday, Amazon says it has not found “any indication of a widespread problem in the 3090s,” but it will release a patch anyway.

Hundreds of thousands of people played in the closed beta of the New World yesterday, and millions of hours had been played. We’ve received a few reports of players using high-performance graphics cards and having hardware bugs while playing New World.
The New World makes standard DirectX calls provided by the Windows API. We have not found any indication of widespread problems with 3090 disks during either beta or many months of alpha testing.
New World Closed Beta is safe to play. To further reassure players, we are implementing an update update that closes frames per second on the menu screen. We are grateful for the support the New World is getting from players around the world, and we will continue to listen to their feedback in Beta and beyond.
However, the language of the Amazon statement does not completely rule out the possibility that the game may cause problems. In particular, the wording “does not indicate wide spread questions ”(focus on ours) suggests that some things could be, and since we don’t know how broadly or narrowly Amazon defines“ widespread, ”we can’t be sure how many cards the company has decided to influence.
