Should you upgrade to an iPhone 12?
The iPhone 12 is, of course, the best iPhone ever – and as such, if you’re in the market for a new iPhone, something from the iPhone 12 series is probably the right way to go. However, not everyone should buy it. For example, if you already have an iPhone 11, then the iPhone 12 probably isn’t such a big upgrade. Save it iPhone 13 or iPhone 14.

iPhone 12 design and display
The title for 2020 is that Apple finally made a dramatic change in overall hardware design after evolution iPhone X design for three generations. The latest design calls back iPhone 5 and drops the latest iPad Pro and iPad Air.
The pages are now flat, matte on the iPhone 12 and glossy on the iPhone 12 Pro. There are also sharper edges that move to the front and back of the glass. The look is finished with smaller frames around the entire screen, although there is still a front camera and Face ID technology at the top. The design is complemented by a number of new colors, especially the distinctive deep blue variant.
The iPhone 12 and 12 Mini are black, blue, green, white and red, while the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max are black, blue, gold and white.
The second most attractive part of the iPhone 12 line includes the available screen sizes. The iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro now offer a 6.1-inch screen that is 5.8 inches, although phones with smaller frames are not significantly larger. New to the model is the iPhone 12 Mini (yes, that’s a real name) with a 5.4-inch screen that places it just above the iPhone SE in Apple’s lineup. For those who want a large screen, there is an iPhone 12 Pro Max with a 6.7-inch screen.
The iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max have slightly different finishing sets in addition to different colors. The body is made of stainless steel, not aluminum, and the textures of the body and glass are reversed – the frame is polished brilliantly, while the glass has a matte surface like the iPhone 11 Pro.
The display has a big improvement in durability: ceramic safety glass. Apple partnered with glass maker Corning to create a new glass case for the iPhone 12, called Ceramic Shield, the strongest display currently commercially available. Apple claims that the performance of the drop is fourfold, which means it is much more likely to withstand a typical drop without cracking or breaking. We have to wait and see how it means scratches and other indicators of durability. Early drop tests seem to suggest that the ceramic plate is indeed very strong, which is promising.
None of the displays, even on the Pro models, have a refresh rate of 120 Hz or what Apple would call “ProMotion” technology. While the screens are beautiful, it’s still disappointing a year when almost every Android phone released has a refresh rate of at least 90 Hz – and trust me really affects the appearance of the screen.
All four iPhone 12 models offer 5G connection, which is the first for Apple, but the feature can be found on most Android phones over $ 500. Apple decided to include both generic Sub-6 5G and less used mmWave 5G radios in its phones, ensuring wider compatibility, especially in the US, Verizon uses mmWave exclusively, while AT&T and T-Mobile are primarily based on Sub-6 and are slowly adding mmWave.
iPhone 12 cameras
The iPhone 12 again has only two cameras, a main lens and an ultra-wide lens, but Apple has improved the main camera compared to the iPhone 11. The main camera has a new 7-element lens and a wider f / 1.6 aperture. improve low light photography – Apple claims a 27% improvement in low light.

In the iPhone 12 Pro, the cameras are taken to a new level. First, you get three sensors with a 52mm “telephoto lens” added, which provides 2x optical zoom over the main camera. The main camera has also been improved, like the iPhone 12, with an f / 1.6 aperture and a new 7-element lens for clearer photos.
Apple is making even more improvements to mainframe and TV cameras on the iPhone 12 Pro Max. The main sensor has a new DSLR-type OIS system, called sensor transfer, which stabilizes the sensor itself instead of the lens. This new sensor system improves performance in up to 12 Pros in low light. The telephoto lens has a longer focal length of 65mm or 2.5 times the main lens, which makes you little closer to the subject and reduces the amount of digital zoom required.
With the new A14 Bionic processor, Apple can bring advanced Deep Fusion camera processing to all four cameras, including a selfie camera, to solve even better computational photography in difficult scenes, lighting and textures. And as usual, you can edit all your photos Apple’s awesome imaging technology. Not only that, but with iOS 14.3, Apple has finally enabled support for ProRAW image capture, designed to make RAW images more editable on the iPhone.

Better yet, MagSafe isn’t going to be exclusively with Apple’s own accessories. Other companies can make MagSafe-compatible accessories, and Belkin has the first new accessories. Given how solid the market is at the moment for accessories that use magnets in existing cases, we can expect this to really rise to the iPhone 12 series.
Of course, as with other magnetic objects, Apple is recently confirmed that you should not put your iPhone too close to a pacemaker or other medical devices that may react to magnets.
