The Asus ZenFone 8 will be launched on May 12 with a screen with a hole for a self-camera in the upper left corner, the tanner of the Taiwanese company has confirmed. Reports of the existence of several smartphone models in the ZenFone 8 series have infiltrated for several quarters. However, the latest developments do not provide information on other models in the series. Previous leaks have suggested that Asus may launch the ZenFone 8 Mini and ZenFone 8 Flip in addition to the vanilla ZenFone 8.
A Tweet posted by Asus April 27 also teases that the phone will provide smooth performance. This can be a hint for a display with a high refresh rate, or a powerful SoC under the Hood. Twitter also shows an animated outline of the upcoming phone with visible perforation. This suggests that the vanilla ZenFone 8 does not come with a turntable for selfies like its predecessor, Asus ZenFone 7.
Talking about the screen, previous reports have argued Asus ZenFone 8 Mini could be triggered with a 5.92-inch 120 Hz refresh rate display. It may also be possible that the vanilla model also gets a high refresh rate.
Asus set the launch date as May 12 a microsite for a startup event that displays a timer.
As for under the shell, the phones in the series are reported comes with up to 16GB of RAM and Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC, suggesting smooth performance. In fact, Asus markets the phone as a “high-performance, compact”. Asus is likely to stream the event on its social media channels.
Asus has not disclosed any number or names of ZenFone 8 series smartphones, but previous leaks have suggested that there are multiple phones in the series. A the report claimed that references to three smartphones with code names “SAKE”, “PICASSO” and “VODKA” have been found in the kernel source code and firmware. Asus ROG 5 hint at multiple ZenFone 8 smartphones.
