The Asus ZenFone 8 and ZenFone 8 Flip can be launched in India under the name Asus 8Z and Asus 8Z Flip. The ZenFone 8 series, launched globally last week, did not have an Indian launch due to the country’s COVID-19 pandemic crisis. Phones are now detected in the list of Google Play support devices with alternate names. The Asus ZenFone 6 was launched in India as the Asus 6Z and the Asus ZenFone 8 series is likely to get the same Z plural.
Asus launched ZenFone 8 series globally last week. Just before the launch, Asus India had announced that the series will not be launched in the Indian market due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The company has not yet shared the Indian release date. Now, a Google Play supported devices listing (through GSMArena) displays the Asus ZenFone 8 series – ZenFone 8 and ZenFone 8 flip with model numbers and different names. The ZenFone 8 with model number ASUS_I006D is listed as “ZenFone 8 / ASUS 8Z,” suggesting that the phone will boot as an Asus 8Z in some areas, including India.
However, the Asus ZenFone 8 Flip is not listed under an alternative name, like the vanilla ZenFone 8, but it is likely to be launched in the country under the name Asus 8Z Flip. Its model number is ASUS_I004D. So far, Asus has not shared any details about the ZenFone 8 series launch in India.
Asus was launched ZenFone 6 worldwide in May 2019 and then in India a months later like Asus 6Z. This was mainly due to a branding issue with the ZenFone moniker. Asus ZenFone 7 however, did not start at all in India and although we do not know the reason, Asus told Gadgets 360 that it was not due to a trademark issue.
