Mentiner, Bentley’s current house coach, has invented a 22-inch-diameter alloy wheel from the world’s largest carbon fiber manufacturer. Developed for the Bentley Bentayga SUV, the bike cuts six pounds of unsprung weight from every corner of the car, greatly reducing the huge alloy wheels (relative to the SUV’s 2.4 tonne unladen weight) and the benefits of control / agility. Bentaygalle. More impressive, however, is the carbon fiber bike, the first of its kind to pass all the rigorous tests of the German TÜV (Technischer Überwachungsverei – Technical Inspection Organization), including impact tests.
Under conditions that would otherwise break the aluminum alloy and cause an explosive tire to explode, the carbon fiber wheel developed by Mulliner allowed for slow emptying due to tearing of the carbon fiber fabrics, while the wheel still retained its structure.
The bike has been developed for five years in collaboration with Bucci Composites experts. In addition to carbon fiber weight savings, a reduction in unsupported suspension mass (including wheels, tires, braking system) results in greater benefits in increased steering agility. Carbon fiber wheels also bring fewer rims, reduce tire wear and improve stability on the table.
The wheels are created by a patented process involving a resin transfer mold in which certain carbon fiber strips are stacked on top of each other by placing them in molds to create 3D blanks before the resin and hardeners are injected into the mold and cured for the final product. is then polished to the end.
