Corning Incorporated has introduced a new range of Gorilla Glass, which includes Corning Gorilla Glass DX and Corning Gorilla Glass DX +, which provide professional-grade image transfer technology for mobile devices. Corning’s first customer to introduce Gorilla Glass X is Samsung, which uses glass in the camera’s lens caps.
Corning says the technology offers excellent scratch resistance, advanced optical performance and durability.
Speaking about the new products, Corning Gorilla Glass Executive Vice President and CEO Jaymin Amin said: “Corning’s Gorilla Glass composites not only offer better scratches, optical performance and durability than mobile coatings for mobile camera lenses”.
The number of photographs taken worldwide has grown to 1.4 trillion per year from 2010 to 350 billion. Decisions to purchase mobile devices have been largely influenced by mobile camera technology, which incorporates professional-quality image quality in all lighting conditions and minimizes all reflections in camera systems.
Smartphone manufacturers have integrated features, such as telephoto and wide-angle lenses and infrared sensors for mobile cameras, to meet the growing demand for high-quality image and video capabilities. As sophistication has increased, so has the size and number of cameras, which increases the likelihood of scratches and damage in everyday use.
“By capturing 98 percent of the light from the camera lens, our glass composites enhance all the features of the camera design and help create high-quality images and videos,” Amin further shared.
