TikTok algorithms can be very attentive when it comes to the types of videos you want to see in your For You feed. But when it doesn’t work, you may have to face a steady stream of video type that you really don’t want to deal with.
I’m not just talking about something outrageous – such as political or religious or social statements that you may feel are completely contrary to your beliefs. I’m also referring to videos that may simply feel annoying, like a type of music you don’t like or humor that doesn’t fit. For example, for some reason, I suddenly found myself swiping even a series of videos from so-called fortune tellers offering advice to their commentators. I Really did not have to see them.
So what can you do?
Well, it turns out that you can really “dislike” TikTok videos – or at least you can tell TikTok that you’re not interested in it, and so (hopefully) adjust the algorithm so you don’t show you other similar videos.
- Long press on a video you don’t like.
- You get a pop-up menu that lets you record a video, add it to your favorites, report it (if you feel it’s really offensive), or say you’re simply not interested. In this case, tap Not interested.
- You can then choose to either hide videos from this user or hide videos that use this sound (if you’re just tired of a particular soundtrack).
And hopefully that’s it. By the way, you can also print long live videos that you don’t like; in that case, you get the immediate choice to either say you are not interested, or report the video.
