What Is A Dream Without A Goal? 4 Differences Between Goals And Dream

dream without a goal is a wish. A goal without a plan is just a dream.”

It is a little bit complicated, right? Nooo… it’s so simple. Before coming to the question, let’s understand the concept of Dream, Goal, and Wish.

What Is A Dream?

There are so many things we want in life, but most of them are our dreams. To be an astronaut is a dream, to marry your crush is a dream, to visit every place in the world is a dream.

Sometimes our dreams come true, but most of the time, they don’t. Simply put, a dream is a wish that we know can not be possible. For example, I dreamed of becoming a film director when I was young, but I didn’t work hard to become one. So, that was my dream.

What Is A Goal?

A goal is an aim or objective in our life. We all have specific goals in our life. There are short term goals, like saving a certain amount of money, visiting a place, do some productive work. And there are long-time goals, like marrying, having kids, and buying a house.

To achieve something, you need a plan. For example, your goal is to become a lawyer. Then you need to follow certain steps like complete a bachelor’s degree, pass the LSAT, Earn the JD and then pass the Bar Exam. in this case, the steps are your plan, and the goal is to become a lawyer.

What Is A Wish?

Do you ever wish for something impossible to have?

When I was young, I wanted to date Rose. Yes, you heard me right, Rose Dewitt Bukater. I was so fond of Titanic that I used to watch the movie so many times. And that was my wish. I know it can not happen in reality, but this was my dream.

Now, come to the point. It was a dream that was impossible to achieve. Any hard work, plan, or strategy will not make my dream come true. Sometimes we think about what would happen if we were able to fly.

What Is A Dream Without A Goal?

As I said earlier, the answer is a wish. We have so many dreams that we want to be true in our life. But we can not do anything to make that possible. But there are other dreams, if we work hard, that can be possible.

Suppose you have a dream to plan a family when you are 30. For that, you can start working at the age of 25. And after five years of hard work and planning, you can start a family. But if you do not set a goal, it is not possible to make your dream come true.

To fulfill your dreams, you need to set some goals. For example, I want to make 1 million dollars within five years. To make that happen, I need to set a few goals where I will invest, where I should put my money and other plans.

But, if I don’t work on my dream and do nothing to reach my goals. Then, after five years, my dream will not be fulfilled.

A Dream⇢ Set Goals⇢ Planings⇢ Work ⇢ Reach Goal⇢ Dream Comes True

Differences Between Goals And Dreams

I think now you have a pretty good idea about Goals and Dreams. Now there are a few differences between these two.

  1. To reach a goal, we take proper action on that. But, on the other hand, we just think about our dreams. Even when we are sleeping and doing nothing, we can see dreams. But, goals need planning and action.
  2. Dreams have no time to fulfill. There are many people who have dreams for their whole life but do nothing to reach that goal. But, Goals have deadlines. First, you set a goal to achieve within a certain time. Then, you need to work to reach your goal within a time limit.
  3. Almost every dream is imaginary. We think about dreams and always put ‘it’ before addressing a dream. On the other hand, goals are based on reality. We know that if we work hard, we can reach our goal. For example, I have a dream to lift the Mjolnir, but that is not possible.
  4. This point is important. We always search for the result. And we want productivity. Dreams have no results, but if you set goals to reach. You can do so many productive things on the journey to fulfill your goals. A friend of mine had a goal to have a million subscribers on his Youtube channel. After three years of hard work, he has 1.4 million subscribers.

Final Words

I think now you have a pretty good idea and concept about dreams and goals.

So, what are you waiting for? First, set your goals and work on them, and if you have a dream that can be possible to happen, then never hesitate. The journey will give you many lessons if you work hard to achieve something.

You can share your one dream and goal in the comment section with others.

Thank You.
