Fearless has released a number of new features for members, including updated scenic workouts, new training tools, and the ability to pause subscription classes.
With re-launched scenic exercises, you can take a first-person trip through the virtual area instead of sweating it in the studio classroom. They were previously available to all Peloton members, including those who only use digital subscriptions, but now they are only open to all access members.
This change will no doubt disappoint users who don’t own Peloton hardware, but those who do will get a lot more out of their virtual tours. Although the scenic rides and runs were originally based on time alone, you can now choose from guided classes guided by the instructor of your choice, as well as options based on time or distance.
The music has also been updated, with Warner Music Group licensed songs replacing the songs included in the older scenic sessions.
Another new feature, Strive Score, is based on your metric heart rate as measured by a compatible ANT + heart rate monitor. This can be a chest strap device, such as Garmin HRM-Proor a fitness monitoring such as Polar, Garmin, Wahoo or Coros (unfortunately Fitbit devices do not support ANT +, so they cannot be used for this).
Unlike Peloton’s leaderboards, which take you to other runners and riders, Strive Score is not competitive and is personal to you. It measures how long you work in each heart rate zone during each class. Your heart rate zones are based on a percentage of your maximum heart rate and help you understand the intensity of your workout.

If you have Fearless Tread or Tread +, you can now track demand categories by speed range and slope. This feature had previously only been available to Peloton Bike users and helps ensure that you stick to the instructor’s session plan.
Fearless has also relaunched Programs, which are teacher class collections designed to help you achieve a specific goal. You will be given a training and course schedule with a progress bar so you can measure how close you are to your goal and keep yourself responsible.
Finally, you can now stop the requested category and retrieve it later with a new feature called Pause. It’s a handy tool, which means you won’t lose part of your workout if you have to attend to something important in the middle of a trip or run.
Fearless is facing increasing competition, so it needs such upgrades to stay ahead of the curve. Companies like Echelon strive to take a bite out of lunch, and the iFit subscription service allows owners of compatible NordicTrack, ProForm and FreeMotion fitness equipment to also participate in instructor-led classes and virtual scenic sessions.
