Fitbit Versa

Corey Gaskin / Digital Trends

Fitbit Versa gets its name from its versatility and is a great alternative to the Apple Watch (it also resembles it in design!). At an affordable price, you get all the smart watch functions you need for both smart watch and fitness tracking applications.

Even if you don’t have a wide range of apps like Apple Watch, Fitbit’s proprietary operating system brings all the notifications and fitness information you need right to your wrist in an easy-to-navigate interface. Android users can also take calls directly from the watch and also send quick text responses. If you want, you can download up to 300 songs directly to Versa, either with preloaded music apps or by downloading them directly to the watch itself.

Versa can track all kinds of exercises from running to cycling, weights, swimming, interval training and full body exercises either manually or automatically. The clock coaching app guides you through the initialized workouts, and the clock records the distance traveled as well as the calories, steps, and heart rate. We think it is the best Fitbit available. Although there is a new version Fitbit Versa We believe the original version is more than enough for most users.

Fitbit Charge 3

Unlike Fitbit Versa, Fitbit Charge 3 is more fitness-focused than operating as a smart watch. Charge 3 is navigated via a touch screen, where you can find basic information on steps taken, calories burned, climbed layers, distance and heart rate data. An integrated SPO2 sensor measures blood oxygen levels and analyzes your sleep patterns.

Charge 3 can display a range of notifications, including calls, texts, app alerts, and music playback, and Android users are able to send quick responses. Another great feature of the Fitbit Charge 3 is its long battery life: In our tests, we got up to a week’s worth on a single charge.

Fitbit Inspire

If you don’t need a smart watch and are just looking for a basic fitness follower at an affordable price, the affordable Fitbit Inspire is definitely for you. There are two versions of this Fitbit: the Inspire we recommend here, and Fitbit Inspire HRwhich increases heart rate monitoring. Unless you’re doing fitness activities where knowing your heart rate is helpful, like running or jogging, save yourself money by picking up a cheaper Inspire.

Even without a heart rate monitor, you can still track your steps, distance, hours, active minutes and calories burned, as well as your dreams (it can even wake you up by gently shaking your wrist). You still get automatic tracking, which is more expensive with Fitbites, and an impressive up to five days of battery life on a single charge.

Fitbit Ionic

the best fitbit deals

Fitbit Ionic is one of Fitbit ‘s oldest smart watch models, but it lacks functionality in any way. In addition to the fitness tracking features you’d expect from Fitbit, you get all the conveniences of a modern smart watch, including a separate app store, NFC tap to pay, and Bluetooth and Wi-Fi support. Add to this the built-in GPS with GLONASS, and we claim that distance tracking on the Ionic is by far the best of all Fitbit models.

Speaking of fitness monitoring, you get continuous monitoring of steps, heart rate, sleep patterns, stairs, and calories burned. Ionic supports customizable workout routines as well as automatic detection of different workouts, so you never forget to track and follow your coaching with multiple workouts and activities.

Although Ionic is fitness tracking first, the smartwatch feature allows you to use a variety of apps in the same way as Android Wear or Apple Watch. Like Versa, it has its own music storage space that you can add either manually or access through multiple music applications.

How to choose Fitbit

Choosing multiple models can be confusing which model to choose. So let’s look at each of our recommendations to see who can benefit from them.

If you’re looking for basic activity tracking, Fitbit Inspire is great because it checks all the checkboxes for what a good activity tracking needs. If you don’t need (or want) a smart watch, this is the one to choose from. However, we recommend switching to Inspire HR if your training requires heart rate monitoring: the base model does not offer it.

Charge 3 is a better option for those who want a little more smart watch functionality as well as more accurate and comprehensive activity and fitness tracking. This is also the cheapest Fitbit that provides a connection to your smartphone to display notifications, and if you’re using an Android device, you can send quick responses.

Next up is Fitbit Versa, of which we are big fans because of its smartwatch functionality. You can answer calls and send quick answers from this watch, and many preloaded apps let you use it just like a traditional smart watch. However, you are limited to what applications Fitbit includes.

For those who want flexibility in the applications they use, then get to the top of the Ionic line. As we mentioned, it has its own app store, and with NFC, built-in GPS, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth, it’s by far one of Fitbit’s smart watch-like offerings at the moment.
