GTA 5 PS5 and Xbox Series X are running. The iconic GTA 5 will be released on three-generation consoles after being “expanded and improved” for new consoles later this year. More than seven years after its first release and 130 million copies, GTA 5 (and its multiplayer component, GTA Online) remains the hugely successful Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive. Although that means you can’t GTA 6 in the near future, the key goal is to keep the GTA Online player base committed for generations.
If you already have PS5 or Xbox Series X, thanks backward compatibility of course you can play GTA 5 right now. But you can enjoy serious improvements from the next generation before the new version is released in the second half of 2021. We don’t have an exact release date yet when it will happen, and we don’t know exactly what it entails with the Extensions and Improvements, but we hope it’s only a matter of time before we get more information, as we’re already a few months away by 2021. -Two is attending E3 2021 can bring us the news we are waiting for.
However, it seems likely that if you want to continue playing GTA Online in the future, you will probably want to pick up this new version, as Rockstar has suggested that some future GTA updates will not be supported on Xbox One and PS4, the publisher promises “more new updates, including GTA Online – content intended exclusively for new consoles and PCs “.
Here’s what we know so far about GTA 5 on the PS5 and Xbox Series X.

GTA 5 Release Date for PS5 and Xbox Series X.
GTA 5 is coming to “new generation consoles” in the second half of 2021, Rockstar has confirmed. The Rockstar press release did not specifically mention the Xbox Series X, only the PS5 (we think this is a condition of the marketing agreement with Sony), but the phrase ‘new generation consoles’ clearly also refers to the new Xbox.
It is still unclear whether the GTA 5 for PS5 and Xbox Series X must be purchased separately, whether it is a paid upgrade for existing PS4 and PS5 players, or whether current owners will receive the upgrade for free.
GTA Online will also publish as a separate edition in the second half of 2021. Could this be a deliberate measure to reduce the storage needs of the GTA and give the multiplayer component more ambitious things? Or is it just necessary to set GTA Online as a continuous entity even if a new numbered GTA is announced over the next couple of years? We have to wait and see.
PlayStation owners have a significant advantage in all of this. If you play GTA Online on PS4, you will get a million GTAs to spend within the game each month until the PS5 version of GTA launches. And when a standalone version of GTA Online arrives on PS5, console owners have three months to claim the game for free after release.
GTA 5 PS5 and Xbox Series X trailers
The PS5’s GTA 5 was the first trailer unveiled to the console during Sony’s Future of Gaming in June 2020. An introduction where Michael said, “Why did I move here? I think the weather was” similar to GTA 5’s famous first trailer in 2011 We haven’t had a similar trailer for the Xbox Series X yet. See it below:
GTA 5 PS5 and Xbox Series X Enhancements: What Are They?
“The new generation versions of GTA 5 feature a host of technical enhancements, visual upgrades, and performance improvements to take full advantage of the latest hardware, making the game more beautiful and responsive than ever,” Rockstar describes GTA’s upgrades to 5 next-generation hardware.
Rockstar hasn’t been too precise about the improvements, but hopefully we’ll finally be able to run 60 frames per second on GTA 5 consoles, which is pretty easy to achieve on a computer. We assume that the game will likely resemble the PC version as it runs on high-end hardware – although it’s possible that Rockstar is planning other improvements that we don’t know about yet.
We expect Rockstar to confirm these improvements in the near future as GTA 5 is scheduled to land on PS5 and Xbox Series X later this year.
Where is GTA 6?
GTA 6 is simply not ready yet. While we know almost nothing about the next entry in the series, these games are awesome attempts for massive global development teams. Red Dead Redemption 2 was, of course, Rockstar’s last major project, and waiting for GTA 6 so soon after that is unrealistic.
Meanwhile, the audience for GTA Online is huge, and the game will be maintained by continuing to sell GTA 5 and in-game currency. Rockstar will likely want to maintain this interest across generations until GTA 6 is finally ready.
GTA 5 PS5 and Xbox Series X: news and rumors
Take-Two at E3 2021
E3 2021 has progressed and Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two Interactive is on the list of attendees. This year’s E3 will be a fully online affair to be held on 12-15. June. In addition to the four-day broadcast, publishers will give dedicated press conferences with interviews and comments.
In the presence of Take-Two, it’s possible that the E3 2021 may be the place where we’ll finally hear a little more about the Expanded and Enhanced version of GTA 5. Rockstar hasn’t traditionally been very big on E3 in their announcements, but since everything about the game is more of an update than a full-featured announcement, it feels like we have a chance to see something. As GTA 5 is expected to be expanded and improved sometime this year and E3 is almost right in the middle of the year, it could be the perfect place for the release date announcement.
So far, Take-Two has not yet confirmed the detailed plans for the show, so we can’t be sure that GTA 5 Expanded and Enhanced will appear, but we’ll keep our fingers crossed.
Not a “simple gate”
Speaking at a Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom conference, earlier this week (via VGC), Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick explained that the company may not see a larger share of the company’s strategy coming from re-masters, but intends to approach possible re-forms differently than competitors.
“Redesign has always been part of the strategy,” Zelnik said. “We’ve done it differently than the competition – we’re not just moving titles, we’re taking the time to do the best job possible to make the title different for the new release, the new technology we’re releasing. It’s on.”
“So we’re improving technology, updating graphics, and improving performance,” Zelnik continued. “And that’s why I think our remastered titles are doing so well.”
“We have been very successful with the Mafia series and Grand Theft Auto, for example [V] is now moving to its third generation, which is amazing, “Zelnik said of the upcoming GTA 5 remaster.” It was a standard carrier when it was launched, it was still a standard carrier in the second generation, we will see how Grand Theft Auto will do in the next generation. Of course, I’m sure Rockstar only offers a great experience, but you can’t do it if you just make a simple gate. “
Do you use a Rockstar RAGE engine?
There have been rumors that the game could use the Rockstar RAGE engine used in the development Red Dead Redemption 2.
Rumors come through Rockstar ‘s insider Tez2 (Via Wccftech), which sent GTAForum that the new GTA 5 game data refers to the RAGE engine and not the original GTA 5 engine. However, Tez2 also notes that this may mean that the game’s interface will run on the new engine, while the rest of the game will still use its original engine.
Writing on the forum, Tez2 says, “You found new structures that have been added to a recent update related to a separate version, and one of them is ‘rage :: fwuiMessageBase’, which comes from the RAGE version of RDR2, so it seems to go along @ Spider-Vice & @uNi noted that the improved version is likely to use the RAGE version of RDR2, however, it is possible that the interface would take advantage of the base code of RDR2, while the rest will remain the same. “
However, since these are just rumors at the moment, we have to be careful until Rockstar himself makes any kind of announcement.
We’re still waiting to learn more about how this version will be ‘extended’ to new consoles, as the trailer mentions, but Rockstar will discuss the new version of the game more in line.
