Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 may be the last MCU departure for one of the team’s original members.
A few days after director James Gunn hinted at the third Guardians movie could be the last one of his directors, Dave Bautista – who plays fan favorite Drax – might also call time for his Marvel career.
Bautista talked A digital spy before the release of the Army of the Dead, Zack Snyder’s upcoming zombie action story, starring Bautista, asked for some updates on the three-part Marvel movie.
Bautista said he did not yet know the Guardians 3 script, but at the same time revealed that the Drax and Mantis spin-off films had even been planned at some point. However, Bautista argued that Marvel Studios did not appear to be aroused by the idea until he suggested that Drax might not return post-Guardians 3.
“It [Drax and Mantis movie] it was really because it was James Gunn’s idea, “Bautista said.” I thought it was such a great idea, but I haven’t heard any follow-up from the studio. I don’t think they’re very interested or it doesn’t fit the way they’re mapped. But by the way, no. I mean, in my duties, I have Guardians 3, and that’s probably the end of Drax. “
Is Guardians of the Galaxy 3 the last MCU movie in its original lineup?
Spoilers are followed by Galaxy 2 Guards and Avengers: Endgame.
That sounds more likely. Marvel movie series usually include three movies before their arches are considered complete, so it’s no surprise if Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is the last outing of the Star-Lord ragtag crew.
There are, of course, exceptions to this rule. Thor: Love and Thunder is the fourth Thor movie in its series, while we’ve also had four Avengers movies so far. However, the other MCU features have had three installments before Marvel Studios moves on to introduce other superheroes.
But we are different. Returning to the Guardians ’original film series, it’s likely we won’t see Star-Lord, Gamora, Groot, Rocket, Drax and Mantis as part of the team when Guardians 3 ends.
When he hints, Bautista may not return to another film, and given that he is very close to Gunn, we suspect he will not return to Guardians 4 without the series director.
Next, Rocket Raccoon could part his way with the group. Back in May 2019, Deadline conducted an interview with Gunn, who had been kicked by Marvel Studios at the time for his previously inconspicuous comments. Gunn had teased the possibility that Rocket’s arc would be completed in Guardians 3, but that was before Marvel shot him and hired him.
As Bautista says in his Digital Spy interview, the Guardians 3 script has changed, but it’s unclear whether these changes are related to Rocket’s story. If Gunn believes the Rocket Arc is ready by the end of Guardians 3, he could be another outgoing.
Finally, we have speculation about the introduction of Adam Warlock into the MCU. In the comics, Warlock is a superpower created by a scientific group called the Enclave, which eventually joins the Guardians line. However, his origins have seemingly been transformed into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In the aftermath of Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Sovereign High Priestess Ayesha is seen healing wounds after the guards destroyed her navy. As the camera rotates from Ayeshha, we see the golden “birth” that Ayesha claims creates a “perfect creature” capable of destroying guards. According to him, the name of his creation is “Adam,” which is a clear nod to Adam Warlock.
In March, Gunn had to refute allegations that he was not in the actor show Warlock on the big screen. It is unclear whether this means Adam Warlock way appear in the next Guardians movie, but he has smart money. Gunn is currently busy with post-production assignments for his upcoming DC film, The Suicide Squad, so working on Guardians 3 won’t be given full attention until after the film’s release in August.
Vol. 3. And to what world would I throw a “Caucasian” only if the character has golden skin? And if I wanted the Zac Efron type, wouldn’t I go to Zac Efron? Where do you get this nonsense? https://t.co/dxZJUMvtVsMarch 10, 2021
Still, if Warlock appears on the Galaxy 3 guards, he could become a new member of the team, and he could even replace Star-Lord as their leader. If Peter Quill finds the 2014 version of Gamora following Avengers: Endgame events and also ends up leaving the Guardians, the team will need a new commander-in-chief and no one would be better than Warlock.
Of course, all this is speculation for us. Any deviations from the Guardians may have changed since Gunn’s original script, and Bautista did not directly confirm his departure. However, if we were to guess, we would say that the order will change by the time the credits move to Guardians 3,
We have to wait until May 2023 to get reassurance. Before that, however, the guardians are part of the movie Thor: Love and Thunder, which arrives in theaters on May 6, 2022.
