Smartphone chipsets, unlike processors and graphics cards in computers, are more modular and flexible. These chipsets are built on an easily licensable architecture that gives chipset and smartphone manufacturers more design options and allows them to tailor the design to their specific needs. With Nord 2 and the Dimensity 1200-AI chip, this is exactly what has happened.
On paper, the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 is a very efficient chip. It is packaged in an 8-core processor (in 1 + 3 + 4 configuration, more on that later), Mali-G77 MC9 graphics card, support for four-channel memory, dual-channel UFS 3.1 storage (capable of 1.7 Gbps data) Transfer speeds), dual SIM 5G, Wi-Fi 6 and more.
What OnePlus brought to the mix: Better artificial intelligence
The above information only applies to the standard Dimensity 1200 chipset. OnePlus, in partnership with MediaTek, took the same design and increased its artificial intelligence capabilities by integrating display quality and image processing optimizations. The result is the Dimensity 1200-AI chipset, which debuts on OnePlus Nord 2.
In particular, the Nord 2-Dimensity 1200-AI pairing enables features such as AI Resolution Boost and AI Color Boost for a better display experience, AI photo and video enhancement features, more efficient Nightscape Ultra night mode, better image stabilization, faster image processing for delayless shooting and more.
Hardware acceleration with such software features usually results in better efficiency and battery life when performing these tasks, but we don’t yet have information about OnePlus or MediaTek on this front.
AR experience for everyone and a chance to win Nord 2!
When technical things are out of the way, let’s move on to something more fun. OnePlus has announced the ‘Fast & Smooth AR Challenge’, which runs from 12 to 30. July. It’s a simple, fun AR gaming experience that anyone can only check out with a smartphone and an Internet connection.
The challenge is two games, the ‘90 Hz Pinball Challenge ’, which runs from 12 to 30. July, and the ‘One Day Power Challenge’, which runs from July 22-30. The winners will take part in a lucky draw and win a Nord 2 smartphone and a whole host of treats.
The pinball challenge only requires you to navigate in the “fast and smooth” band to hit a 90 Hz target in the allotted time. One Day Power Challenge gets you to charge up to 30 phones in a set amount of time.
You can simply participate in the direction head here right now via Chrome or Safari on your smartphone. No registration or login is required, and all you need to do is give your browser permission to use the camera, motion and direction sensors.
You can play as many times as you want and over 2000 winners will be selected by July 30th.
