Albeit Huawei markets HarmonyOS 2 as an internal operating system, research has shown that it is an Android fork. Some people have discussed it, but it hasn’t stopped millions of users from embracing it.
HarmonyOS 2 already works on 10 million devices
Huawei HarmonyOS 2 has hit 10 million active users in less than a week, according to the new one report (through GSMArena). It is a seriously impressive figure, although it is not very surprising given how it was achieved. Huawei makes the HarmonyOS 2 update available to millions of Chinese customers using everything from the latest Huawei Mate 40 and P40 flagships dated Huaweien Coxswain 9 and P10 models.
A total of about 100 devices will be able to use HarmonyOS 2 by next year. The company’s ultimate goal is to reach 100 million active users, meaning it’s already a tenth of the way there.
In addition to smartphones, Huawei uses HarmonyOS 2 on all types of products, including smart home appliances and recently announced Huawei Watch 3 and Watch 3 Pro smart watches.
So far, HarmonyOS is not to be offered outside of China. It may change, but usage is unlikely to be as high as it doesn’t have access to Google’s myriad applications and services.
