Instagram today, July 22, has announced a new feature for Stories. A new update to the popular photo and video sharing platform allows texts to be automatically translated into Stories. While the app’s posts, captions, and bio already have a translation feature since 2016, the new update makes it easier for users to share stories with people outside of their language area.
According to the new update, the app will display the “See Translation” option in the upper left corner of the screen when it detects a foreign language in the message. Users can tap an option to see a translation of the story.
When you view a story with text, you will be notified ‘View translation’ if the language you set is different from the language used in the story.
Just tap it and the translation will appear 🌼

Instagram says, “When you view a story with text, you’ll get a ‘See translation’ notification if your set language is different from the language used in the story. Just tap and the translation will appear.”
The new feature can translate text, but audio translation is not yet available. The new feature is available worldwide and currently supports 90 languages, including Arabic, Hindi, Japanese, Portuguese.
Currently, all feed text and comments in feeds and user bio data automatically have a language-based translation. Translations are based on viewers’ language preferences. If the translation is available in the language chosen by the viewer, they can tap ‘Show translation’ below the text to see the translation.
Separately, a few days ago, Facebook added a new feature to Instagram that allows users to control the frequency of sensitive content they want to see on Instagram on the Explore tab. This feature is useful for users who don’t want to see sensitive content too often because it “can be shocking to some people”.
Sensitive content may include “messages that may be sexually suggestive or violent,” or promote tobacco. Users can enable this feature by selecting Profile, Settings menu> Account> Sensitive Content Management.
