Apple is preparing a major overhaul of its mobile software, which will include an update on how users handle notifications, a redesigned iPad home screen, an updated lock screen, and privacy protection for their ticket devices, according to people who know it.
Changes in development are to be incorporated iOS 15 and iPadOS 15, there will be major software updates iPhone and iPad. California-based Cupertino technology giant announces future software updates, codenamed Sky Worldwide Developers Conference From June 7, people said. They asked not to be identified when discussing internal affairs.
Apple releases major software updates for all of its key devices each year as a way to keep people in their ecosystem, sell more devices, and encourage developers to create new applications. Apple will usually release updates in mid-September, close to the launch of new iPhone models. Given that WWDC is several weeks old, the company could still change the features or delay them for a later upgrade. An Apple spokesman declined to comment.
The company is planning a new feature that will allow users to set different notification settings, such as if the phone beeps or not, depending on their current status. The add-on comes in the form of a new menu that allows users to choose whether to drive, work, sleep, or custom classes of their choice. The menu appears on the updated lock screen and in the Control Center, iPhone and iPad menus for quick access to settings.
You can also set automatic replies to messages based on their status. It is an improvement over the current auto-reply feature, which is currently only available while driving. Apple has added some unique notification features, such as Do Not Disturb and Sleep, but this marks the first time the company has provided a system-wide feature to change notifications based on user status.
The company is also working on upgrades iMessage which aims to act more as a social network and compete better with Facebook WhatsApp. These changes are still in development and may come later, people said.
The iPad line, which received the new iPad Pro models earlier this week, will also see software changes. The company plans to make the most significant update to the device’s home screen since the product’s first launch in 2010. After the iPhone launched last year was similar, Apple plans to let users place widgets – gadgets that show the weather, upcoming appointments, stock tickets and more – on any home screen. Users can also replace the entire application grid with widgets only.
Privacy is also coming. One new feature in the works is a new menu that shows users which applications are silently collecting information about them. While Apple has improved the privacy of its devices in recent years, thousands of applications have been identified that use special tracking devices that can collect and share information such as phone numbers and location. The new feature is designed to reduce it.
Apple is also planning a minor upgrade to macOS since its last upgrade, and Apple Watch and Apple TV software.
