Microsoft is threatening to bring it back
irritating lovable Clippy character. The software giant claims it will replace the Microsoft Office paper clip with emoji Clippy if the tweet below gets 20,000 likes. Tweet has already passed 9,000 likes, so Clippy may be returning to more innocent mothers.
Born in Office 97, Clippy initially appeared as an assistant to provide help and tips for using Microsoft Office. You loved or hated Groucho’s eyebrows and perseverance, and Microsoft eventually killed Clippy in Office XP in 2001.
However, the famous paper clip almost came back a couple of years ago. Some Microsoft employees woke Clippy up for a moment as an animated sticker in Microsoft Teams, but the company’s “brand police” began to stop the effort. It was a brutal shooting of an anthropomorphic paper clip, but it seems that Microsoft has now realized people want to have fun as they enter data into spreadsheets or create a PowerPoint presentation.
