Lucky Prescott’s life changes forever as he moves from his home town to a small border town and befriends a wild Mustang named Spirit.
No depth level to the animation feature is expected. Although it’s weird The spirit is untamed (which is already a spinoff Spirit: Cimarron stallion and Matt Damon saw the inner thoughts of the horse of the same name) is based not only on the Netflix animation series, but mainly on a streamlined version of that series episode, with the abilities of the now-A-listed celebrities. It is easy to say in advance The spirit is untamed (this long animated version directed by Elaine Bogan and Ennio Torresan) is quite lame and predictable from an adult perspective (even huge names like Jake Gyllenhaal hardly give the impression, and even if they do, it’s primarily boredom and trying to guess the sounds you hear), but inviolable and cute for younger viewers by encouraging the usual traits like courage and friendship. The question then becomes if The spirit is untamed is used as a means of harassing children, why it seems to them a busy and probably worse product that is over in 90 minutes when animation episodes can be thrown in for nearly ten seasons.
Fortunately, the younger talent at hand sounds a little more enthusiastic, as is Isabela Merced’s (reasonably reliable, future and future talent that seems Transformers that Dora Researcher) Lucky Prescott is a chipper and a combination of enthusiastic and nervous to return home to meet his estranged father Jim (Jake Gyllenhaal). The bottom line is that Lucky’s mother (a short voice performance from Eiza González) was a local hero rider, but suffered a fatal accident by pulling a trick she had done several times before, so broken and restless, Jim sent her to live with him. Aunt Cora (Julianne Moore). Ten years later, this arrangement came about when Lucky inadvertently fools his wealthy grandfather.
On the train journey home, he first gets a glimpse of the Spirit in nature, and it won’t be long before he befriends his peers Abigail and Pru (Mckenna Grace and Marsai Martin), getting solid advice from them to smoothly break and develop a bond with the wild mustang. Of course, Jim is afraid of the worst and is against Lucky going close to the horses. The bond between a girl and a beast is slightly entertaining, while the relationship between a father and a daughter is relatively non-existent. As a result, the script by Kristin Hahn, Katherine Nolf, and creator of the original series, Aury Wallington, is bare bones without much emotional or comic investment.
This is partly because a gang of thieves (led by Walton Goggins, another talented performer who sounds lost and bored) is planning to steal the horses on a robbery escape. The result is something more dangerous and adventurous that works to express friendship between girls, but rarely feels appealing. It also doesn’t help it The spirit is untamed are either made on a small budget or that their animation competition is light years before the game. A lot of environments contain low-resolution textures, and the Spirit itself is visually playful and impersonal.
The spirit is untamed tells a harmless and straightforward story, but it has nothing significant to recommend to children outside of distractions. It’s a bit of laughter, emotion, and a heart, but it doesn’t give in to some of the family’s friendliest animal traits. It just exists. The film itself may be more untamed to resonate.
