Today is the day – the Mahindra XUV700 finally gets its world premiere this afternoon at 4pm IST; just days before India’s 75th Independence Day. The XUV700 – which marks a generational change from the original XUV500 – has been around for a long time and is set to be released this festive season as activity in the three-row SUV industry continues to accelerate.

The spy images leaked a few days ago confirmed that the Mahindra XUV700 will take where the last XUV500 left off. It features a similar rectangular grille with vertical chrome trim and angled LED headlights with an exaggerated interpretation of the ventilated extensions typical of the XUV500. Flush-mounted door handles are segment-specific, and the SUV appears to have 18-inch alloy wheels. The corner theme at the back continues with LED taillights at the back, and the darkened pillars create a floating ceiling impression.

Mahindra has also previously revealed some key details about the interior and features of the Mahindra XUV700, including a fairly clear look at its dashboard. The highlight is the dual screen layout, reminiscent of a pretty modern Mercedes. It features a fully digital instrument cluster, a customized Sony 3D sound system, and the touch screen unit features a new operating system that Mahindra uses as AdrenoX. This system combines Alexa-based voice commands and driving modes Zip, Zap and Zoom (diesel XUV700 only).

Other features are already known, such as a large panoramic roof, driver fatigue alarm system, air filter and personal safety messages. The XUV700 is also expected to acquire certain advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

This Mahindra XUV700 is based on the new monocoque architecture. The SUV is expected to come with the same engines that were introduced in the second-generation Mahindra Thari, but in a different tuning mode: a 2.0-liter Stallion turbo gasoline with about 190 hp and about 350 Nm, and a 2.2-liter mHawk diesel with almost 190 hp and torque over 400 Nm. Both engines are likely to have a six-speed manual and a six-speed torque converter. Mahindra has also confirmed that the AWD system is available as an accessory.

The Mahindra XUV700 will host the Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus and Hyundai Alcazar. Mahindra XUV700 prices are expected to be 16-23 million rubles (ex-showroom).
