There is probably no more popular video card than the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, which has not yet seen the light of day. But thanks to all the bubbling rumors and leaks, it’s possible that we can see it with 12GB of VRAM at least wild very soon, possibly immediately May 26, according to a recent rumor. Actually, an image of a third-party model just appeared ostensibly confirming the immediate launch of the new RTX card.
Since it is almost impossible to get a newer graphics card and the RTX 3080 is already a great card, why would Nvidia decide to launch the RTX 3080 Ti now? Well, there’s a really good reason if you take a closer look at Nvidia’s entry-level Ampere card, Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060. Probably not a good look, the 3060, launched in February 2021, has more VRAM than the flagship RTX 3080. And as the game’s textures become more complex, especially at higher resolutions, you’ll soon need at least 10GB of VRAM.
And with it rumored price tag $ 1099 / £ 800 / $ 1420, it fits just fine RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 as another high-end option. To keep you up to date with all the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti news, we will update this page with new rumors, leaks and news about this GPU.
Go for it
- What is it? Nvidia’s next high-end graphics card
- When is it outside? Expected to be May 26, 2021
- What does it cost? TBD, but it’s not going to be cheap
Release date for Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti
Rumors of the release date of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti have been everywhere. We have heard everything from October 2020 to May 2021. The former was clearly not true, but it was supposed to be set to launch a fight against it AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT and RX 6900 XT. It turned out that it was not needed.
Right now, the word on the street is that it is will be launched on May 26, 2021. However, we are finally in that time and we have still not heard anything concrete from Nvidia. Team Green launched the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Ti without any noise in December 2020, so it’s possible that it will do the same thing here.
Either way, it’s likely that Nvidia won’t announce the RTX 3080 Ti until it’s fully ready to access store shelves. Due to the ongoing GPU shortage, it is unlikely that the company will engage in a huge hype campaign for a new high-end graphics card.
Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti price
Despite all the rumors circulating about the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, none of them have included the price of the card at all. And that’s probably for a good reason.
Currently, due to the difficulty of purchasing a graphics card and the ever-increasing prices from aftermarket card manufacturers, it is likely to be difficult to nail exactly where the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti sits. But it’s probably going to be pretty expensive.
When we dive a little later, the leaks and rumors suggest that the RTX 3080 Ti is basically an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 with half the VRAM. The card is $ 1,499 (£ 1,399, about 2,030 AU) when actual selling prices have risen much higher.
If we now guessed purely on the basis of speculation, we would say that it is likely to land in about the same place as Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, With a Founders Edition card priced at $ 1199 (£ 1099, $ 1899).
Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti specifications and performance
Since Nvidia hasn’t come out and revealed the features of the RTX 3080 Ti, we really don’t know what the card can do. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t a lot of conversations and rumors about what the supposed graphics card looks like.
The most controversial data to date has been the amount of VRAM involved. We originally expected the RTX 3080 Ti to have 20GB of GDDR6X memory, due to the RTX 3080’s 320-bit memory interface. However, recent rumors have shown that RTX 3080 Ti with 12GB – the same amount as the RTX 3060.
It refers to a 384-bit memory bus, but it raises the question of why Nvidia would limit it to 12GB instead of 24GB. Because when Nvidia launched the GeForce RTX 3060, we were told that the reason why the company equipped the graphics card with 12GB of VRAM instead of 6GB, which might be more appropriate for a 1080p graphics card, Nvidia wanted to provide its users with the most RAM it could memory bus.
We’re not saying that rumors that the RTX 3080 Ti only has 12GB of VRAM are false – in fact, they’re probably right – but that seems to run counter to Nvidia’s argument for the 3060, which has so much VRAM .
Since all of Nvidia’s competing cards have 16GB of VRAM memory, launching a ticket-level card less than this doesn’t seem too likely. Keep in mind we are the same people who thought the RTX 3090 was a fake, so we may be wrong here.
Once again, the GPU that was supposed to be behind the RTX 3080 Ti has since appeared in the RTX 3090, so limiting VRAM to 12GB may be a way to make the RTX 3080 Ti a more affordable version of the RTX 3090 – most players who don’t need as much VRAM as Nvidia’s monster GPU provides.
But another recent rumor goes even further than this, suggesting that the RTX 3080 Ti has 10,240 CUDA cores instead of the previously rumored 10,496 core specification – the latter having the same spec as the RTX 3090.
Although the RTX 3080 Ti has been cut into 10,240 CUDA cores, it would be a massive jump over the RTX 3080 core 8704, making the RTX 3080 Ti an absolute beast in 1080p.
