As various film and television productions try to comply with health guidelines and restrictions, Starz has decided to premiere Outlander in 2022 for an abbreviated period of eight periods. This is then followed by an extended seventh season, consisting of 16 episodes in 2023. You can check out some of the season 6 photos published by Starz…
The decision follows Outlander because the team was unable to shoot last year due to interruptions in the midst of a global pandemic. As production for the sixth season begins this week, the series will return in early 2022 with a 90-minute premiere. It is based on the sixth book in Diana Gabaldon’s series Outlander novels, Breathing snow and ash.
The sixth and seventh seasons were to consist of 12 episodes, as the series has done in recent years. Due to the shortened six periods, the remaining four periods are reserved for the seventh extended period of 16 periods. Season seven begins production sometime in 2022 and is based on Gabaldon’s seventh book Echo in the bone.
“We are excited to get into the editorial space to work to bring fans one step closer to family reunification back in Fraser’s Ridge,” said Outlander actor Matthew B.Roberts. “The filming in 2021 has presented unprecedented challenges that led us to decide to cut off the season so that fans can have the liveliest and most dynamic season as soon as possible. Dinna fash, we will then shoot the extended season in seven 16 episodes next year as life returns to normal.”
“We are committed to telling the story with catchy and bold stories for the upcoming eight-episode season, introducing viewers to new characters like Tom, Allan and Malva Christie (Mark Lewis-Jones, Alexander Vlahos and Jessica Reynolds) who create excitement for Ridge,” said Christina Davis, Starz’s director of original programming. “We can’t expect viewers to see an exciting sixth season that reflects Starz’s #TakeTheLead initiative through unforgivable storytelling and powerful female characters.”
Outlander stars Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan star Claire and Jamie Fraser as well as Sophie Skelton and Richard Rankin Brianna and Roger MacKenzie and John Bell as young Ian. Ronald D. Moore Star Trek: the next generation and Battlestar Galactica the reputation the leader produces.
Creating a home in a new world is by no means an easy task, especially in the wild hinterland of North Carolina – and perhaps most importantly – during a dramatic political upheaval. The Frasers strive to maintain peace and thrive in a society that – as Claire knows far too well – is inadvertently marching towards revolution. Against this background, which tells of the birth of a new American nation, Claire and Jamie have built a home together for Fraser’s Ridge. They must now defend this home – established in the land given to them by the crown – not only from external forces but also from the growing strife and conflicts of the community under their care.
