Pathe has released a declaration and trailer for the religious erotic drama of director Paul Verhoeven Benedetta. Based on Judith C. Brown’s nonfiction Modest Acts: The Life of a Lesbian Nun in Renaissance Italy, the film is Verhoeven ‘s first since 2016 Elle and follows the nun in 15th-century Italy as she suffers from disturbing and erotic visions as she begins a love affair with another woman.
In the late 15th century, when the plague destroyed the land, Benedetta Carlini joins the monastery of Pescia in Tuscany as a beginner. Benedetta has been able to work miracles from an early age, and its impact on community life is immediate and significant.

Benedetta stars Virginie Efira, Charlotte Rampling, Daphné Patakia and Lambert Wilson. It will premiere at the competition in Cannes in July.
