Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G with Kryo 670 processor, Snapdragon X53 5G modem launched

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G was launched at the chip maker’s 5G Snapdragon Summit on Wednesday. New The new on-chip (SoC) system between the Snapdragon 750G and Snapdragon 780G is designed to deliver an enhanced multimedia experience with a completely new configuration. The Snapdragon 778G SoC will also succeed the Snapdragon 768G, which was introduced in May last year. The new offering is based on 6nm process technology that can bring significant process upgrades and energy efficiency over the Snapdragon 768G SoC. Qualcomm claims the Snapdragon 778G is capable of twice the performance of artificial intelligence compared to its predecessor.

The Snapdragon 778G SoC will be commercially available in the second quarter of 2021, Qualcomm said in a press release. The new chip will act as high-end smartphones from companies Honor, iQoo, Motorola, Oppo, Realmeand Xiaomi. While other smartphone vendors have yet to unveil their plans, Honor has confirmed that the Snapdragon 778G will be available for the Honor 50 series.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G specifications

Qualcomm has offered a Kryo 670 processor in the Snapdragon 778G SoC, designed to deliver up to 40 percent better performance compared to the Snapdragon 768G’s Kryo 475 processor. The circuit also includes the Adreno 642L graphics card, which is also estimated to produce up to 40 percent faster graphics than its predecessor. In addition to the new processor and graphics card, the Snapdragon 778G features a low-power Hexagon 770 processor and a 2nd-generation Qualcomm Sensing Hub that offers a new generation of artificial intelligence experiences.

The Snapdragon 778G also features the Qualcomm Spectra 570L Triple Image Processor (ISP), which can simultaneously capture triple images with up to 22 megapixels. The three ISPs also support wide, ultra-wide and zoom cameras, as well as 4K HDR10 + video recording.

In terms of connectivity, the Snapdragon 778G has an integrated Snapdragon X53 5G modem that supports mmWave and sub-6 5G networks. Also included is the Qualcomm FastConnect 6700 connectivity system, which supports multi-gigabit class Wi-Fi 6 speeds of up to 2.9 Gbps. The circuit is capable of supporting Wi-Fi 6 / 6E, 5G and Bluetooth v5.2. It is also claimed to provide a low delay connection. Location services have GPS, Glonass, BeiDou, Galileo, QZSS and NavIC support.

For mobile gamers, the Snapdragon 778G supports Qualcomm Game Quick Touch, which is advertised to provide up to 20 percent faster input response compared to its predecessor. The chip also has other Qualcomm Snapdragon Elite Gaming features, including Variable Rate Shading.

The Snapdragon 778G has LPDDR5-RAM support for up to 3200 MHz and 16GB capacity. It also supports Full-HD + displays at up to 144 Hz refresh rate – along with HDR10 and HDR10 + support. Smartphone vendors could also offer up to 4K displays with a refresh rate of 60 Hz.

Qualcomm has also offered its Quick Charge 4+ technology to ensure a faster download experience. The chip also includes support for USB version 3.1 with a USB Type-C interface.
