Samsung Galaxy Z Roll may arrive next year, S Pen support likely

In the ongoing Display Week 2021, Samsung unveiled its next-generation display technologies. The South Korean company sent video presentations several foldable mobile screens, 17-inch foldable screens and mobile phones, and CEO JS Cho’s keynote speech, the former two are closer to production than a scrollable phone.

That’s not to say Samsung’s roll-up smartphone is years away, as the company has applied for a trademark for the Z Roll name.

Galaxy Z Roll Release Date

The applicant noticed Let’s go digital and that means Samsung roll-up phones are part of its Galaxy Z series. As often happens, the document is thin in detail, but it seems to have revealed one key point: S Pen support.

This information in no way confirms that Samsung’s first roll-up phone offers pen compatibility, but it’s still interesting to consider. Samsung’s next foldable flagship, Galaxy Z Fold 3and clam Z is the successor to Flip 3 is also expected to provide S Pen support.

Information and concept video released by Samsung suggest that the Galaxy Z Roll will be able to expand horizontally. In its unwound form, it has a conventional form factor. The additional display area is convenient for multitasking.

According to previous reports, the phone has a 6-inch screen and scrollable technology allows it to expand to 8 inches.
Samsung allegedly unveiled a rotating smartphone during CES 2020, and company vice president Lee Jae-Yong was allegedly seen holding a detachable phone in November during a visit to the Research and Development Center in Seoul, South Korea.

A few other companies have also presented their own rollable prototypes, but we do not expect them to become commercial products soon.
