Samsung saw the most smartphone shipments worldwide in the first quarter of this year. The latest strategy report proposes that global shipments of smartphones were 340 million units in the first quarter of 2021. Broadcasts grew 24 percent from the previous year, the fastest growth since 2015. This may be largely due to an increase in telecommuting and online training, which helped boost smartphone sales. Samsung was the most successful smartphone maker with a 23 percent market share in the first quarter of 2021. Huawei was unable to move into the top five smartphone shipments. Oppo and Vivo were in fourth and fifth place, respectively.
The latest Strategy Analytics report suggests it Samsung is still the largest supplier, supplying 77 million smartphones worldwide during the first quarter. Growth was 32 percent from 58 million units a year earlier in the first quarter of 2020. The increase in sales was due to the new low-cost Galaxy A-series 4G and 5G phones, as well as previous Samsung Galaxy S21 series. Apple came in second by sending 57 million iPhone units worldwide and has a market share of 17%.
Xiaomi global shipments of smartphones increased during Q1 2021 and ranked third in terms of the number of smartphones shipped, the report found. It delivered 49 million smartphones worldwide and took a 15 percent market share in the first quarter of 2021, up from 10 percent a year earlier. This is due to the brand’s strong performance in India and China, as well as its expansion to other regions such as Africa, Europe and Latin America.
Huawei was not part of the top five smartphone shipments in the first quarter of 2021. Oppo Vivo finished fourth and fifth with a market share of 11%. Oppo shipped 38 million units in the first quarter of this year, while Vivo shipped 37 million smartphones, Strategy Analytics says. Vivo grew a lot last year and grew an impressive 85 percent a year earlier in 2021.
Globally, the combined market share of the five largest suppliers was 76 percent in 2021, up from 71 percent a year earlier. Linda Sui, head of strategy analysis, said: “The Chinese smartphone market had a sensational quarter due to the success of 5G products at several price levels. Chinese smartphone shipments grew +35 percent year-over-year to 94 million units from the first quarter of 201. in the first quarter among the top five brands, but it was and will be a concern for smaller vendors in the next few quarters. “
