Sony’s new Japanese PS5 Digital Edition is mysteriously two-thirds lighter


Sony’s scams only came as a surprise in Japan: the company has quietly kicked off a new version of the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, which is 300 grams lighter than the original (through PSU). That’s exactly two-thirds of a pound, leaving the mammoth game down clearly over the eight-pound mark just below it.

How could you ask? Well, that’s the question!

Sony’s official handbook (PDF) and the Quick Start Guide (PDF), as spotted posted by PS5sokuhouInfo on Twitter, only There is a weight change between the new CFI-1100B and the original CFI-1000B and a new thumbscrew on the PS5 stand, so you don’t need a screwdriver or a coin to insert it.

It’s not like the console loses its girth: Sony’s documents show it has the same exact dimensions. So what could have changed? System it has an internal power supply, a giant heat sink and lots of protections, so they come to mind, but we have to wait for another rupture to make sure. Or maybe it’s just a typo. Due to the context, a full-fat PS5 and disk drive only weigh less than 10 pounds.
