T-Mobile is investigating a report of a customer data breach involving 100 million people

T-Mobile confirmed on Sunday that it is investigating an online forum that claims to sell a large amount of its customers ’sensitive information. Motherboard reported that it was in contact with a data vendor who said it had taken data from T-Mobile’s servers, which contained social security numbers, names, addresses and driver’s license information for more than 100 million people. After inspecting samples of the data, Motherboard said he seemed genuine.

“We are aware of the allegations made in the underground forum and have been actively investigating their validity,” a T-Mobile spokesman said in an email Limit. “We don’t have any more information to share at this time.”

It is not clear when the data may have been used, but T-Mobile has been the subject of several breaches in recent years, last in December 2020. During the incident, information and phone numbers related to some customers ’calls may have been exposed, but the company said at the time that it did not contain sensitive information such as names or social security numbers.

In 2018, hackers got in personal information to approximately 2 million T-Mobile customers which contained names, addresses and account numbers and 2019, some of T-Mobile’s prepaid customers had contributed to the infringement, which also concerned names, addresses and account numbers.

A March 2020 violation disclosed financial information, social security numbers and other account information of some T-Mobile customers.
