Ted Lasso, Season 2, a heartwarming football comedy that streams Apple TV Plus, is the official release date. The next season of the sports TV show will be with us in July, which means we can start counting down the days until Ted starts offering biscuits to all of us again.
The original Apple TV Plus series has been a surprise hit among both viewers and critics, and has won several awards in recent weeks. Apple has confirmed that the show has been renewed for season 3also, so Ted and AFC Richmond will have even more comedy whims in the future.
Why has it been so successful? Well, the heartfelt representation of a helpless American coach leading an English football team is really just partly about football. The first season focused on the dysfunction of their nuanced, funny characters, and there’s a lot to enjoy for real football fans without the show relying too heavily on a lazy Anglo-American cultural summary.
If you want everything low level you should know about Ted Lasso season 2, we’ve got you involved. The following explains its confirmed release date, cast announcements, number of episodes, official products, and more.
The warning department, however: we will deal with spoilers for the first season, so make sure you have viewed it in its entirety before you press.

The first trailer was unveiled at Apple’s Spring 2021 event. There are surprisingly many fun moments between Ted, the AFC Richmond staff and the first team, but we can also look forward to football-based activities and other dramatic moments.
Since this is a teaser trailer, the second video should fall into the lead until the release of Season 2. Should we guess, we’ll say it arrives in late May / early June to whet fans ’appetites before July starts.
Ted Lasso Season 2: How many are there?
As confirmed Collision, Ted Lasso’s Season 2 is longer than Season 1 – Apple TV Plus took the show for 12 episodes this time instead of 10 simply for story-based reasons. Who doesn’t want a little more Ted in their life either, right?
Ted Lasso Season 2 Story: Life in the Lower Leagues
Spoilers for season 1 follow.
While we don’t yet know much about Ted Lasso’s season 2 story, we have a good idea of where it’s going. In the final of the season, we saw AFC Richmond drop from the Premier League to the championship in Season 1. This happened with the last minute winner of Manchester City. The goal was none other than Jamie Tartt, who had been borrowed in Richmond earlier in the season.
Ted Lasso’s football sides are likely worried about adjusting to a new level, but we suspect AFC Richmond will be promoted directly back to England’s top level in season 2. Why? Well, it certainly would know Ted Lasso’s theme of unwavering optimism in the face of adversity. Also considering the proposed three-season arc, Richmond could then fight for the Premier League title in Season 3 as Ted and Richmond owner Rebecca Welton discuss in the Season 1 final. Very, strange things can happen in football.
Although Tartt’s loan spell was stopped in Season 1, Lasso’s unique coaching methods and focus on teamwork clearly won over Jamie. Maybe Tartt will turn his back on his offensive father forever and help Richmond on his way back to the Premier League. We live in hope, especially if Ted has had such a big impact on him.
Ted Lasso is, of course, more about the players, the staff and their families than football. We also see Rebecca’s ongoing quarrel with her ex-husband (Anthony Head), Roy adjusting to life outside of the first team and girlfriend Keeley, and Ted’s struggles with her divorce and distance from her family, among other new plots.
Ted Lasso Season 2 Actors: Bringing the team back together
Here is a list of all the returning Ted Lasso characters we know of:
- Jason Sudeikis Ted Lasso
- Hannah Waddingham Rebecca Weltonina
- Jeremy Swift as Leslie Higgins
- Phil Dunster as Jamie Tartt
- Brett Goldstein as Roy Kent
- Brendan Hunt as a coach
- Nick Mohammed as Deputy Chief Nathan “Nate” Shelley
- Juno Temple character Keely Jones
Ted Lasso is not without the man himself, whom Sudeikis plays in the show. Lasso was filmed next to Coach Beard and Coach Nate in Apple’s Season 2 production release, so they’ve all returned to the next installment in the series.
We see a lot of other familiar faces like Richmond President Rebecca Welton and AFC Richmond model Keeley Jones. Jamie Tartt may have returned to Manchester City, but the door has certainly been left open for the star to save Richmond from their championship dangers. Legendary brazen Roy Kent may be absent from the first team due to a knee injury against Manchester City, but he was seen in a Season 2 trailer, so he will return as well.
Teams tend to change significantly as they drop the division, especially from the Premier League to the Championship, so creator Bill Lawrence gets a sensible opportunity to sign new players to Richmond. However, there is currently no news as to who these new Richmond signatures will be.
However, we know of at least one new addition. In March 2021, it was confirmed Deadline actress Sarah Niles joined Ted Lasson for Season 2 as Sharon, a sports psychologist who worked with AFC Richmond. Maybe Sharon will join forces with Ted and help Richmond’s depleted players believe in himself next season? We hope that if they have ambition, they will return to the Premier League with their first attempt.
A member of Season 1’s support team should also return, including Anthony Head Rebecca’s cheating on ex-husband Rupert Mannio, Andrea Anders Ted’s distant wife Michelle, and real-life NBC Sports commentator Arlo White playing himself.
Will Ted Lasso come for more than three seasons?
We certainly hope so. While the renewal of early season 3 is a reason to celebrate, it’s worth knowing that this can be all we get. In an interview with his good friends Zach Braff and Donald Faison in the duo Fake doctors, true friends podcast from the old show Scrubs, author Bill Lawrence warned that “Ted Lasso is a three-season show” because of Jason Sudeikis’ busy life and young family. If Season 3 were the last installment in the series, Lawrence also confirmed that a resolution is planned for the end of the TV show.
In other words, if Season 2 attracts more viewers than Season 1, behind its success at the Golden Globes, Critics ’Choice Awards and SAG Awards, we can get more episodes after Season 3.
Official Ted Lasso products are on their way
Ted Lasso fans have been wondering for a while if they could get their hands on some stuff for a television show. Now, Lawrence has confirmed that viewers can purchase products, including AFC Richmond jerseys and tracksuits, before the premiere of Season 2.
See Lawrence’s tweet on the topic below:
That shizz will appear before through 2. I hope it would be earlier. Sorry. #TedLassoMarch 9, 2021
It is unclear whether they are only available for team jerseys and training shirts or more. Either way, the Ted Lasso watch party can become even more fun if we all wear football shirts and eat biscuits together through virtual shows.
