Kobo has a new e-reader, and its company is still the largest: the Kobo Elipsa, with a 10.3-inch, 1404 x 1872 resolution (227 ppi) E-ink display, included pen, and the ability to read only books but mark, underline, and mark them in the same way as a real paper book.
Huge electronic readers, such as the 9.7-inch Kindle DX, were once more common, but the latest devices have developed pocket shapes – the Amazon Kindle is up to 7 inches and the Kobon Form (its previous largest size) offers an 8 – inch screen.
But the Elipsa is one of the largest mainstream electronic readers, offering a massive display that’s probably not just good for reading – it also comes with a supplied pen, the first for the company. With the new Kobo pen, the tablet can also be used for taking notes and marking with the OCR feature, which promises to convert written notes into typed text.
Functionally, this makes Elipsa too similar to other giant E Ink tablets, such as significant 2, which also has a 10.3-inch E Ink panel and a pen that allows it to be used as a note-taking device. However, there is a big difference in purpose: reMarkable is a note-focused device designed to replace the paper book, but occasionally also supports e-books.
Elipsa, on the other hand, is still the first e-reader with access to Kobo’s eBookstore of more than 6 million books, as well as best-in-class OverDrive support that lets you easily browse and borrow from compatible libraries.
And while taking notes makes Elipsa a unique note for mainstream electronic readers, there are some caveats: PDFs that contain DRM files can’t be tagged or tagged, and while OverDrive-borrowed books can be drawn, you lose those notes when you return the book to your library library book, though you probably shouldn’t write in them.)
In addition to the large display, the Elipsa also offers a built-in “ComfortLight” system for dark reading, 32GB of internal storage, 1GB of RAM and a 2400mAh battery. Elipsa also has Dropbox support to make it easier to import and export documents.
However, the big screen and pen will cost you: The Kobo Elipsa is set to cost $ 399.99 for a bundle that includes an e-reader, pen and cover. Pre-orders start on May 20th before the release date of June 24th.
