The inauguration of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics began this morning, and songs from classic video games were played as all athletes from the participating countries were welcomed into the crowd-free arena. There were plenty of performances on the RPG front, including well-known songs from the franchise songs Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Fantasy star, and more. Perhaps more surprising were some of the deeper cuts Chrono trigger, Monster hunter, Ace Fight, Nier, and others.

Our friend Polygon is a complete list of songs:

  • Dragon Quest “Overture: Roto Theme”
  • Final Fantasy “Victory Fanfare”
  • Stories series “Sorey’s theme – shepherd”
  • Monster hunter series “Testimony of a Hero”
  • Kingdom Hearts Olympus Coliseum
  • Chrono trigger “Frog theme”
  • Ace Fight “First flight”
  • Stories series “Pomp and Majesty”
  • Monster hunter “Starting wind”
  • Chrono trigger “Robon theme”
  • Sonic the Hedgehog “Starlight Zone”
  • Pro Evolution Football “EFootball Walk-on Theme”
  • Final Fantasy “Main theme”
  • Fantasy star universe “Guards”

Naturally, you may want to hear some of these clips from the ceremony. You must run through some steps to watch them at home (which includes some free options) to see the ceremony without interruption. However, there are some clips on Twitter with a few highlights from the ceremony.
