Clubhouse is no longer just an invitation system for people to join, as the voice chat group has opened its virtual room to joiners. In a blog post, the company announced that anyone can join the platform via Apple-supported or Google-supported Android-based smartphones. In the past, users can join Clubhouse via an existing user invitation.

The direct voice chat group has grown tremendously in the early stages of a coronavirus pandemic. However, it is now in fierce competition with other social media platforms. Technical giants like Facebook have also gone into the live audio industry. In December 2020 Twitter launched Spaces when Facebook hosted live sound rooms.

Speaking of the competition on the blog, Clubhouse said the previous one-only option to join the app was intended to have its ability to grow in a “measured way” and prevent things from breaking down as it expanded its user base. The app had previously only been available for iOS. It was launched on Android in mid-May this year, after which the app has added 10 million users to the community.
