Apple’s first official MagSafe battery is starting to hit the shelves, and one iPhone owner has now clicked on the first real photos of the gadget. And yes, it’s a chonk.
Apple has been following a major bulge route for years, possibly for legal reasonsso there isn’t too a big surprise – but the boy was at Apple strategic about what perspectives it revealed when it first announced this new accessory! Compare to Apple’s original rendering:
Now here Steven Russell, the owner of the new packaging, at a slightly different angle.
Thickness isn’t necessarily a bad thing: wireless charging is notoriously inefficient, so is Apple needed to insert a decent sized battery to make it worth the effort, and it’s probably still thinner as an alternative to Anker (which, however, costs less than half the price).
Unlike Apple’s previously smart battery cases, you might get more than just to extend the life of your phone – the clickable, clickable MagSafe package seems to be double as a Qi wireless charger for other devices. Russell says seems to be charging his wireless AirPods Pro charging case, and you can theoretically even use it on your Android phone.
I’ll buy one for my iPhone 12. We’re looking forward to seeing how Apple’s image (below) turns into the real world.
