The Motorola Defy (2021) is official; Tough guy in the block

Motorola raises the Defy model name from ashes in collaboration with durable phone maker Bullitt. The durable exterior-based smartphone has mid-range specifications that are allowed to withstand almost anything you can throw at it.

Design and protection features

The Motorola Defy (2021) reminds us a lot of that Motorola G9 Play from the front. But the sides and back of the phone are another story. The durable phone has a double-sealed case to make it waterproof, dustproof and resistant to high and low temperatures. According to Bullit, the Defy has been tested to military durability standards and can withstand -30 to 70 degrees Celsius.

The IP68 waterproof rating means that the phone can be immersed up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes. In addition to this, the new Defy withstands 1.8 meter drops without any problems and has the MIL SPEC 810H military standard. Bullitt says the phone must also be washed with soaps and mild disinfectants.

The Motorola Defy screen is covered by the new Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, 0.7 mm thick and designed for drops and scratch-resistant. According to Motorola, glass can be used with wet fingers.

In terms of appearance, the 2021 Defy is, to put it mildly, interesting. A durable smartphone looks like a regular smartphone with a case on the front. Three of the corners are round, while the lower left corner is angular. This decision was made so that the belt on which the Defy comes can have a place.

The phone case looks hard and has a two-tone design. The fingerprint sensor is located below the cameras under the Motorola logo. The 3.5mm headphone jack and Micro-SD card slot we’ve forgotten are in this phone. Soft touch plastic is used to make the phone more impact resistant.

You can choose from two color versions – forged green and black.

Overall, the Motorola Defy (2021) design attracts attention and is one of the best durable phones.

Monitor and cameras

The 6.5-inch LCD HD + 60 Hz refresh rate display with shock-resistant Gorilla Glass Victus technology is the choice for the 2021 Defy model. This seems to be an outdated screen, but at least you get one of the hardest glasses on smartphones. The display frames aren’t that good either, but that can be expected from all sustainability-focused smartphones.

Defy’s three-camera system consists of a 48MP main camera, a 2MP depth sensor and a 2MP macro camera. The front camera is an 8 megapixel type unit.

Performance, storage, software and battery

Like we said, the Motorola Defy is really similar to the Motorola G9 Play. We could even say that the Defy is just an affordable Motorola G9 Play from last year with a new durable body. Both phones look the same and have identical features.

Just like the G9 Play, the phone is powered by a Snapdragon 662 processor combined with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The storage space can be expanded via the card slot. This processor is missing 5G.

In terms of battery life, it’s a 5,000 mAh unit with a 20W high-speed wired charge that Motorola says gives you two days of battery life. Is not wireless charging.

Another area where the 2021 Defy feels obsolete is its software. The shockproof phone comes with Android 10, which is upgradable to Android 11. There’s no word on whether the phone will get Android 12, but we can’t say we have no doubts.

Price, release date and availability

The Motorola Defy (2021) will be available in select European markets and later in Latin America in the coming weeks. The price is 329 euros or 179 pounds.
