There’s a new trailer Ghostbusters: Afterlife which gives more settings and lines than what we’ve seen so far – and boy, does it look good.
After a year of really weird Americana trailers that look more like Superman than Ghostbusters, it’s nice to see where this movie really comes from. The early trailers were full of epic music and wide views and whispers, but there are really some ghosts in this trailer! And Annie Potts! And the voice of Dan Aykroyd! This is the first trailer that really makes the film feel like a sequel rather than a weird and moped, kid-directed restart.
Crucially, in addition to the original welcome cameras of Janine Melnitz and Ray Stantz, there are a lot of real ghosts in this trailer for a movie about the destruction of ghosts. There are ghosts that get coffee, and ghosts that escape the ghosts of Ectomobile and marshmallow, and an entire river of slime that seems to pass under some truly Byzantine ruins that reproduce the greatest work set in the original film.
If I don’t have a comedy (this movie still looks pretty serious), some silly ghosts and stories do. And this trailer is full of it.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife premiere in theaters on November 11, 2021.
