The all-new Jeep Commander — a three-line version of the Jeep Compass rumored to be called the Jeep Meridian for the Indian market — has been unveiled inside and out, and Jeep is releasing a few images of its new three-line SUV to accommodate things like the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavor. The new SUV will go on sale first in South America, with India expected to launch in 2022, and also a pair of near-production-ready Jeep Meridian test mules recently observed in India. Now, however, we have the clearest look of the Jeep Meridian SUV.
The face of the Jeep Meridian will be clearly impressed by Jeep’s latest offerings, such as the new generation Grand Cherokee and the high-end Grand Wagoneer. It has the same square look with a recessed seven-groove grille and angled LED headlights that make an impressive front end. The Meridian has a vertical shape compared to the compass to fit a longer wheelbase, and also has an extended rear overhang. Note that the rear is brand new and has slim LED taillights, like the Grand Wagoneer.
The interior of the Jeep Meridian is the same as the raised compass of the face. However, the materials and themes used are different. The images show that the leather parts on the dashboard have been replaced with brown suede in the Meridian, while the brushed chrome coating on the compass line has been replaced with a copper coating. There are also brown leather seats with a quilted pattern, as well as open-ply wooden upholstery in the dashboard and door panels.
While the Jeep has not yet confirmed Meridian’s final specifications and features, some of the expected features include advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), a panoramic roof and multi-zone automatic air conditioning. The test mules observed in India had a six-seater captain configuration and a second row of captain’s chairs, which are also expected to be power-adjustable.
Other features transferred from the 2021 Jeep Compass include UConnect 5 infotainment system, 10.25-inch digital instrument display, automatic headlights and wipers, electronic parking brake, ventilated front seats, panoramic sunroof, eight-way front seats, 360 rear camera door, electric sound system, Alpine sound system much else.
The seven-seater Jeep Meridian is expected to have the same engine options as the compass-1.4-liter gasoline engine and the 2.0-liter diesel engine, which is expected to offer a significantly higher tuning mode on the Meridian. Manual and automatic transmissions are available with both engine options, and all-wheel drive is also available.
The Jeep Meridian is expected to arrive in India in early 2022 and is expected to be priced at 1.5-2 million rubles for similar compass versions. The new SUV, codenamed H6, is the third of four models Jeep has designed for India.
