Big Picture, a space that transforms the Steam interface into a more console-like design that is better suited for TVs and controllers than monitors and mice, may not be long in this world. According to Austinp_valve, Valve employee transmission In the Steam community forums, it is planned that the new interface of the newly announced Steam Deck PDA will also replace the Big Picture mode in the desktop version of Steam.
Valve reported Big Picture status in 2011 and published it the following year. The space formed the basis of the SteamOS interface, a Linux version that was shipped to console-style devices that were part of Valve’s unlucky Steam Machine project. When Steam Deck uses a completely new version of the operating system called SteamOS 3.0, it makes sense for the revamped interface to go back to the PC client – especially since Big Picture has felt outdated for some time.

Valve does not give the EEA an indication of when the new interface will be on the way to existing computers. The Steam Deck is scheduled to begin shipping in December, though level of demand has meant that new orders are set to move into the middle of next year.
