Twitter eliminates fleets like Instagram stories on August 3 as it works on new things – Technology News, Firstpost

Twitter eliminates fleets.

In a message shared on Wednesday, Twitter announced it would remove its Fleets feature on August 3rd. Twitter said it is canceling the feature because it is “working on new things”.

“We hoped the fleets would help more people feel comfortable joining the conversation on Twitter,” Ilya Brown, product manager for Twitter, said in a statement. “But since the fleets were introduced to everyone, we haven’t seen an increase in the number of new people talking to the fleets as we had hoped.”

Twitter Fleets is a short-lived feature similar to Instagram stories that appears at the top of a user’s feed, and the messages in it disappear in 24 hours.

Twitter started testing Fleets in June 2020 and finally released it to users worldwide in November last year. The removal of the feature seems urgent since it was introduced less than a year ago, but it seems particularly sudden as Twitter only started testing ads in fleets last month.
