Universal films to Peacock four months after theatrical release

The relationship between theaters and streaming services is evolving every day. The pandemic has changed things, but the landscape changed anything.

Hollywood Reporter points out that Universal Pictures is the latest studio to have favored streaming more, with THR reporting that all Universal films will arrive at Peacock no later than four months after their theatrical releases in 2022.

The year 2022 is becoming quite a year for the universal, so Peacock subscribers will be able to enjoy them Jurassic World: Dominion, Halloween ends and Minions: Grun rise, as well as the new film Jordan Peele.

THR also notes that the studio is shaking traditional licensing, saying: “Universal is going further in its decision to dig an 18-month pay-one window to license content on multiple platforms. For the first and last four months, movies will be played exclusively on Peacock; available but not yet disclosed. “

On top of all that, Universal develops and produces a selection of original films exclusively for Peacock.

“Universal Filmed Entertainment Group has been a great partner and we are excited not only to bring their amazingly large films and beloved franchises to Peacock at the first pay window, but also to offer a steady stream of fresh, original films exclusively to Peacock customers throughout the year,” said Matt Strauss, Chairman of NBCUniversal Direct Consumers and International Board.
