Verizon’s new filter prevents incorrect phone numbers that are too close to you

Verizon wants to help curb disgusting “scam” calls from similar area codes with a new tool called Neighborhood Filter.

A scam is a method used by spammers to make a number similar to yours, so you are more likely to answer the call. With Verizon’s new neighborhood filter, Verizon customers can send these calls directly to the answering machine, as well as other prefix and area code combinations that the company may find suspicious.

The tool is available to Call Filter Free and Call Filter Plus customers through a separate company Call filter application. Free payment for a call filter costs nothing to sign up for, and it provides basic filtering for dreaded and ongoing spam sets. Call Filter Plus, which costs an additional $ 3 per month / line (or $ 8 per month for three or more lines), includes additional tools such as access to a database of over 100 million spam numbers, a personal block list, and a spam risk meter for real-time call evaluation.

You can activate the neighborhood filter to prevent spoofed calls by going to the Call Filter app on your mobile device. (If you’re using an iOS device, you’ll need to change the call barring and call filtering settings in your phone’s settings.) From the lower navigation menu on the main app screen, choose Administration. From this menu, select Other Filters. Here you should see a Neighborhood Filter prompting you to enter a six-digit prefix and area code that is similar to your number. Make sure you turn it on.

Verizon launched a free version its call filtering tools in 2019. Prior to that, it charged $ 3 a month for its call filtering tools, even if these services were available for free through some of its competitors T-Mobile and AT&T.

In the Call Filter Spam Filter settings – whether you pay for it or not – you can specify how you want spam to be filtered. Barred calls can be either ended or sent to the answering machine of your choice. This menu also allows you to specify how you want calls to be marked based on your perceived level of risk. Call filter the application is available on both iOS and Android.
