Vivo has announced that for three years it will be offering significant updates to the Android operating system for some of its smartphones – in the footsteps of HMD Global and Samsung. Although the Chinese company has not disclosed the names of the models, it clarified that certain models from the flagship X-Series are eligible for three-year operating system upgrades. The new policy covers the Australian, European and Indian markets, the company said in a press release.
Instead of promising upgrades for all the latest and upcoming models from Vivo said that three years major Android operating system and security updates will reach its next-generation flagship X-Series, which will launch sometime after July 2021. This is similar HMD Global last month promised to offer three years of operating system upgrades for Nokia X phones.
Last year, Samsung also announced that he would seed three “generations” Android operating system updates to their devices. However, the South Korean company has a list of nearly 40 devices that are eligible under its three-year upgrade commitment.
Vivo has promised that its premium X-Series models, which are not eligible for three-year Android operating system updates, will continue to receive regular Android security updates.
“The X-Series flagships with state-of-the-art hardware are built to last – and we want to make sure our customers get software support that meets their expectations,” says Vivo CEO and Director Yujian Shi, “We always innovate with the user in mind. With this promise, we promise our customers that they can enjoy a first-class smartphone experience for a long time and continue to benefit from the latest software features. ”
Vivo has yet to reveal details of its new X-series phones. However, a rumor factory recently suggested that Vivo X70 Pro + could be one of the future models. It came online with a 4,500 mAh battery and 66W quick charge support. The smartphone is also rumored to have a 1 / 1.28-inch sensor Zeiss optics and includes a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC.
