Warby Parker will update its Prescription Check iOS app on Monday with a new name and ability to new glasses and contact lens regulations on iPhone 6S or later (the company does not currently offer an Android app). Like its predecessor, new Warby Parker virtual vision test doesn’t replace an actual optometrist visit, but getting a new prescription for $ 15 without the need for a schedule should be very convenient.
Once the virtual vision test is loaded, you will be going through some access questions, unlike what you can fill out on a regular optometrist visit (“Do you have regular headaches?” Etc.). Warby Parker also requires you to meet some basic requirements, such as 18-year-olds or older, no “eye health issues,” using a single prescription for remote vision, and seeing well with your current eyeglasses or contacts. With those treated, the app guides you through a simple vision test, reads the letters on your phone screen, and takes turns covering your eyes.
Warby Parker says it takes about 48 hours to write a new recipe, but it won’t charge you $ 15 unless you agree.
The prescription checker used a laptop and phone to measure your eye distance from the test and give prompts, but the Virtual Vision Test makes things a little easier. Warby Parker says the updated app uses a new “proprietary distance estimation algorithm” and software framework designed exclusively for Apple devices called Vision Framework to keep all the contents of your phone.
The Vision Framework covers a wide range of possible uses in iOS, from scanning barcodes to enable tracking of the head used in AR filters, but Warby Parker says that along with its algorithm, it makes performing an eye test less complicated:
Because the tool is able to measure distance and tell the user when they are at the right distance to test vision, the chance of human error during measurement is reduced. All in all, this leads to an even simpler and more efficient user experience.
It is useful because this is the first time the company also offers the opportunity for new contact lens prescriptions online. Warby Parker’s Scout contact lens line was launched in 2019, but has never been able to access the older Prescription Check app until now. Warby Parker hasn’t said if any of the technical changes to its app will make it easier to assign a contact, but they will require different measurements and considerations than traditional glasses.
Ultimately, all of this high-tech convenience is forcing you to purchase new glass frames or contacts directly from Warby Parker and Apple technology utilized by the company to make it as fun and interactive as possible. If you have an iPhone X or later, you can practically try out company frames directly from its application.
