What to do if you find a lost AirTag
If you find a lost AirTag, follow these steps:
- Tap and hold the top of your iPhone or Android smartphone on the white plastic side of the AirTag. Your phone must have NFC.
- Tap the notification that appears. This will take you to a website with AirTag information, including a serial number.
- If the owner marked it as missing, you may see the message in your contacts. You can contact them and arrange a refund.
What to do if the AirTag is attached to a borrowed item
If you see a message on your iPhone saying “AirTag, separated from the registrant, is traveling with you,” don’t panic! The AirTag may be lost or you have borrowed an item with an AirTag.
If you find an AirTag on a borrowed item, follow these steps:
- Tap the AirTag found moving with you message.
- Tap Continue.
- Tap Play sound if you need help finding your AirTag.
- Tap Pause security alerts to clear AirTag Detected alerts for one day if you have borrowed an item with AirTag. If you borrow an item from AirTagilla from a family member, you can turn off security alerts for a day or indefinitely.
What to do if an unknown AirTag is connected to your product
If you find an AirTag that doesn’t belong to you in a personal product, follow these steps:
- Tap the AirTag found moving with you message.
- Tap Continue.
- Tap Play sound if you need help finding your AirTag. If you can’t hear the sound, don’t worry. AirTag may no longer be with you. If the AirTag is within range of the owner, you will not be able to play audio.
- Tap Disable AirTag and follow the onscreen instructions.
