Last year’s ZTE’s Axon 20 5G was the world’s first commercially available phone to place a front camera under the screen. It was an impressive step forward in telephony, but it had one big problem: camera imi. It took a lousy picture and the module distorted the display at certain settings. Now ZTE is trying again updated Axon 30, which seems to offer some improvements over its predecessor.
First, a small spec dump. The Axon 30 features a 6.92-inch AMOLED display, 120 Hz refresh rate, and FHD + resolution, all with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 870 5G chipset. Behind the device is a group of four cameras with a 64-megapixel main, 8-megapixel 120-degree wide-angle, 5-megapixel macro lens and an extra sharpness range. The battery has a capacity of 4200 mAh and a fast charge of 55 W. GSMArena, you have options of 6GB / 8GB / 12GB RAM and 128GB / 256GB UFS 3.1 storage.
But the most interesting upgrades for the Axon 30 are the camera below the screen. For these sub-display modules to work, you need to use transparent materials in that area of the display, which are fairly recent developments and as inferior to standard display technology. The ZTE of the Axon 30 says the pixel density in this range has doubled from 200 to 400 PPI, which should integrate more seamlessly with the display.

ZTE says it has also improved the camera below the screen. You can see at our disposal with the Axon 20 Last year, the images from this camera were hazy and soft in good lighting and caused a lot of noise in low flash. The camera was a great technical achievement, sure, but not similar to the standard forward-facing lenses. However, based on the image below, the popular telephone informant Ice Universe (aka @The universe is ice), There may be some improvements to the Axon 30.
Of course, we have to wait to try the phone ourselves so we can give you a complete review, but don’t hold your breath for wonders. As Ice Universe notes, the image above was taken outdoors in plenty of light, in response to a Twitter user suggesting they have to try the camera in worse conditions, Ice Universe responsible: “So poor performance.”
Another Ice photo suggests that the camera below the screen is also visible when the screen is turned off, but that’s hardly a big deal.
